Everyone knows what traditional wedding cake decoration looks like: sweeping frills of icing upon a tiered cake, with a bride and groom hanging on for dear life at the top.

However, there is a recent trend in wedding cake decorations which means that the bride and groom can choose to have a themed cake, even up to excluding the traditional white, and having a cake that means something to the happy couple.

A white wedding cake is still the traditional choice for a formal wedding.

The wedding cake decorations on such a traditional item will consist of the bride and groom; though you can break with the formality slightly, and arrange to have your figures accompanied by dogs, dressed in uniforms, or carrying a theme such as Disney.

An acceptable twist on the formal wedding cake decoration would be a pair of teddy bears in full wedding costume.

For an informal wedding, the possibilities of wedding cake decoration are enormous.

You may choose to have the cake decorated in your favourite colours, or even decorated in the same way that a birthday cake sometimes is; a traditional summer wedding may have flowers and petals as wedding cake decorations, for example, or a Christmas wedding cake will be decorated with snowmen and Father Christmas.
