Room Decoration Tips

Pet owners looking for Christmas home decoration ideas should use caution when decorating rooms their pets will have access to.

Those with inside petsshould be especially cautious.  Foil wrapped chocolate bells may be safe for the humans in the family, but where Fido is concerned, it's a definite danger.

Some pets, such as cats, do not seem to be particularly attracted chocolate for a treat, but for dogs, it can be fatal.

When decorating for the holidays, if there is any question as to the safety of a decoration where your pet is concerned, it would be best to consult your veterinarian or do some research in a pet care manual.

While some dogs will chew almost anything that comes their way, cats are a little more discerning. Most of the dangers for cats in the home, especially during the holidays, involve plants used to decorate the home.

While mistletoe adds a fun and whimsical touch to Christmas decorations, ingesting it can cause severe stomach cramps and diarrhea, and in some cases can be fatal.

Christmas home decoration ideas involving plants should always be used with caution for people with pets.

The list of plants that are potentially dangerous for pets is surprisingly long and should be considered carefully before exposing pets to potentially dangerous plants in the home.

The most commonly known plant listed in pet care warnings, the poinsettia, while widely believed to be the most toxic to pets, actually carries very low toxicity.

Much more dangerous to pets is the lesser known Star of Bethlehem.  Lilies in particular are dangerous to cats.

The best rule to follow when considering decorating ideas for the home is to consult a veterinarian for safe room decoration tips.  Your pets will thank you.
