 Flower Cake Decoration

Cakes, when stripped of ornate decorations, are as naked as can be. Universally speaking, bakeries at any rate tend to bedizen their concoctions with flower cake decorations, for all the obvious reasons.

The flowers need not be plucked from their botanical repose; these flower decorations are usually baked in the safety of the kitchen. In all, there can only be a handful of ingredients of which such floral decorations are made.

For one, the most ubiquitous is the confectionary known as marzipan. Normally flavored with rosewater, this confectionery consists of ground almonds, egg whites and sugar.

Two of the most common uses of this confectionary are marzipan-filled chocolate and small marzipan replicas of flowers and fruits.

Traditionally used in wedding cakes and Christmas cakes, marzipan is usually tinted brightly and molded into flowers for decorating ends. Another ingredient to tweak flower cake decorations from is the world-renowned gum paste, made of gelatin, cornstarch, and sugar. Decorative cake flowers made from gum paste are of repute for being the most realistic, but not any less edible. Gum pastes are so integrated that decorations made of these can literally stay for centuries.

Special media may also be employed for flowery fancy cake decorating, like piping bags and various piping tips.

Piping bags are partially filled with icing, out of which a fount can make various icing decorations without bounds.

With only the imagination to contend with, a cake decorator can make many different designs, not least of which are party flower decorations such as a drop flower or a petal.

In order to create fresh flower decorations that look like silk or satin, a decorator uses pulled sugar.

This is concocted by boiling sugar, water, and corn syrup. With pulled sugar, one's roses and bows can never get any smoother and shinier. Even so, the natural world's plethora of edible petals is one for the books as it is for the garden.

In fact, edible flowers are often used as attractive garnishes even flower cake decoration - in upscale restaurants. They are more expensive though, because of their fragility. The most recognizable edible flower is the nasturtium. It usually comes in bold yellow or scarlet colors, making them a great addition to green salads. The taste is characterized by a bold peppery aftertaste.

But then the most popular cake decorations are the so-called pansies. Tinted in many colors and delicate fragrances, the taste of these popular cake decorations is that of mild wintergreen. Moreover, the petals of the calendula petals are commonly sprinkled over the cream cheese icing of carrot cake.
