Christmas means different things to different people, thus the imagery is different for each person. Christmas decorations provide a well-known illustration for Christmas with colorful lights and vivid colors. Fun characters from Christmas stories populate our ideas of Christmas imagery. Christmas illustrations are directly related to our own Christmas traditions.

This holiday season, steeped in visual impact, is comprised of color and characters that reflect our beliefs and Christmas traditions.  From Christmas trees to the nativity, from Santa clause to the Christmas star. We each have our own images of Christmas that encompass what Christmas means to us whether it is commercial, traditional or religious.

The commercial illustrations such as Santa Clause, Rudolph, Santa's elves and other characters from Christmas stories are quite well known and are often used to celebrate the season in a more public forum like department stores and public displays.

These characters are usually the subject of Christmas decorations on government property, schools and many stores.

This is considered “safe” territory and is not likely to offend any particular group, as would some other types of decorations. Santa is a well-known Christmas tradition and prominent figure in Christmas lore.

Gifts, Christmas trees, wreaths and holly are all traditional Christmas decorations and are used to mark the season.

Religious illustrations of Christmas are most commonly adopted by families, individuals and faith based organizations to celebrate the Christmas season.

Christmas stories of the nativity are displayed through images of the Christ child, the manger scene, angels and the star that guided the wise men. The Christmas traditions are very rich in faith and religion and are displayed vividly through the images that surround these beliefs.
