Edible Cake DecorationFor as long as any sweet-toothed can remember,
edible frosting and sprinkles have been used as cake decorations
for decades on end.
Frosting or icing refers to that sweet
glaze over the cake, made of sugar, butter, water, and
egg whites or milk.
Though they are yet to kill the competition,
another cake decoration technique is by way of edible photo
images incorporated over the cake.
Anyway, the most common of all edible cake decorations is by way of frosting such as royal icing, marzipan, almond
paste, sugarpaste and buttercream.
Fondant is known to make
sumptuous chocolate cake decorations. On extensive use too are floral sugarcraft or wired
sugar flowers. |

Otherwise, sprinkles, also known as jimmies,
are minute bits of candy perfect for cakes as well as other baked
goods. They are nearly flavorless for candies, but the
Dutch has since passed on the birthday party decoration custom
of using chocolate jimmies since they have a taste.

With the right piping
techniques, a cake decorator can make many different theme
party decoration designs such as open star, closed star,
basketweave, round, drop flower, leaf, multi, and petal.
Still erudite bakers have now made it possible
to transfer photo images onto the cake. It makes for some
serious razzle-dazzle, but it is not any more inedible than
one's margarine.
This is edible cake decoration of the highest
order, created by printing images on an edible paper made
out of glucose and starch.
You can use printed photos and place it on edible cake; there are edible paper and ink that you can use. You can also use custom design pans for shaped cakes such as Mickey Mouse, heart or a car; they come in different designs.
There is also sugar paste that comes in different colors, which you can use to mold many objects. Edible models and Heart quins are also available and they are sold.
A birthday celebrator will truly
be flattered with such decoration once affixed on the birthday
cake. Most picture formats, such as JPG, TIFF, GIF, BMP,
as well as files from Adobe Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro, are
compatible for printing on edible paper. |
However, one's image will be enlarged or reduced proportionately to fill the printable area of the cake. As a result, there may be some white space around one's
picture, depending on the shape and size of the original.
